Overview
Category 5e Cabling is now regarded as the entry level from a performance perspective for structured cabling systems. It enables 1000Mb/s Ethernet transmission and is ideal for applications that are not bandwidth hungry.
The PowerCat™ range of Category 5e compliant products provide a high performance end-to-end UTP copper solution, designed to meet and exceed all relevant international performance standards, including TIA/EIA 568-B, ISO/IEC 11801 Class E Second Edition, AS/NZS 3080.
Consisting of cable, patch panels, patch cords, work area modules and consolidation points the PowerCat solution provides a reliable and cost effective option for your cabling infrastructure needs.
Highlights of the PowerCat solution
- Total end-to-end horizontal cabling solution
- Compliant to TIA/EIA 568-B, ISO/IEC 11801 and AS/NZS 3080
- Flexibility with moves, adds and changes
- Independently tested and verified
Superior product performance
The PowerCat solution utilises our RJ-45 DataGate™ connector technology. The DataGate connector features a patented ‘spring-loaded shutter’ providing protection from dust and contaminants, and the patented V-shaped IDC contacts improve installation speed and enhanced cable retention. Designed to support high speed networks, cable and patch cords are available in both PVC or LSZH sheaths and an angled patching solution is available to support high density installations where communications room space is limited.
FAQ's
What is the advantage of using a Cat 5e solution?
Following the release of ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B in 2001, Category 5e has become the base standard or base performance level for copper structured cabling systems. The performance parameters for Category 5e, while tested to 100MHz, are more stringent than the preceding Category 5 standard and are designed to support high speed protocols such as Gigabit Ethernet. Category 5e UTP systems are also excellent in terms of cost (per unit length), ease of installation, size and weight and the availability of common tools, connectors and active equipment. The PowerCat solution provides great flexibility in the network infrastructure, enabling moves, adds and changes in both open and fixed work area layouts - facilitating the every day dynamics of the modern office.
In what applications would you use a Category 5e solution?
Category 5e solutions are able to support transmission speeds of up to 1 Gigabit Ethernet. They can be used by enterprises that use low data traffic - for example where Microsoft office is used. Category 5e solutions are sufficient for many organisations that are small in number of users or file sizes.
Is Category 5e considered to be the base- level for cabling systems in terms of performance?
Yes - Category 5e would now be regarded as the base-level cabling system in terms of performance standard. It is still a cost effective solution for many organisations - where data throughputs are modest and speeds beyond 1 Gigabit Ethernet are not required.
Are Category 5e Cabling Systems still being installed?
Yes Category 5e systems are still being installed all around the world where they meet the user's requirement for bandwidth and speed.
Is the Molex PowerCat5e solution covered by a warranty?
The PowerCat Category 5e solution is covered by a 25 Year Product, System Performance and Application Assurance Warranty.
